鈥淲hile we鈥檝e always taken care to recognize and celebrate our Indigenous graduates, for the past few years, we did it from a distance,鈥 said聽Celeste Pedri-Spade, Associate Provost (Indigenous Initiatives), addressing attendees at the 2026 Scarf Ceremony. 鈥淏eing together again in this space carries a different kind of meaning.鈥

The May 29 celebration at the Faculty Club marked the first in-person Scarf Ceremony since the COVID-19 pandemic. This year鈥檚 gathering honoured 88 First Nations, M茅tis and Inuit graduates from doctoral, master鈥檚, undergraduate and certificate programs. Of these 88, 24 graduands from the Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) who complete their programs In-Community received their scarves as part of the ceremony. OFNIE held a luncheon for their graduates and guests after the Faculty of Education's June 1st Convocation Ceremony.
