He died in the early hours of March 3, 2026.</p> Fri, 13 Mar 2026 18:20:06 +0000 David Langlais, Ken Dewar, Alexander DeGuise and William Foulkes 2010 at /deptmedicine Venous Thrombosis Trial Published in The New England Journal of Medicine /deptmedicine/article/venous-thrombosis-trial-published-new-england-journal-medicine <p>The first clinical trial to compare two commonly used drugs head-to-head for venous thrombosis treatment has found a clear winner: while both drugs work well to prevent recurrent blood clots, <b>apixaban is safer than rivaroxaban</b>, with fewer bleeding complications.</p> <p>The COBRRA trial, led by researchers at The Ottawa Hospital, aimed to directly compare bleeding with apixaban and rivaroxaban in venous thrombosis patients. Dr. Copaescu is an Assistant Professor (Clinical) at º£½ÇÉçÇø and a clinician-scientist specializing in drug allergy and immunology. She completed her PhD in drug allergy and has contributed to international guidelines on the management of drug allergy.
