Biography:

My research focuses on the interplay between modifiable psychosocial and behavioural (e.g. exercise) factors and health status in various chronic illnesses and in relation to depression in populations at risk, guided by a biopsychosocial framework. This has laid the foundation for the knowledge-transfer phase of my program which focuses on tailoring and evaluating evidence-based e-health interventions to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to optimize their health and wellness. My research activities focus on:

1) maternal and paternal mental health during the transition to parenthood - identifying predictors and developing e-health psychoeducational interventions (seehttp://publications.mcgill.ca/reporter/2015/10/expectant-dads-get-depres...) ;

2) delineating the role of behavioural and psychosocial variables on health outcomes and quality of life in patients with chronic conditions; and

3) developing and testing gender-tailored tools to help individuals initiate and sustain healthy lifestyle behaviours over the lifespan.

Biography:

David Buckeridge is a Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at �� in Montreal where he holds a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Chair in e-Health Interventions. He is also a Medical Consultant to the Montreal Public Health Department and the Quebec Public Health Institute. Dr Buckeridge has consulted on surveillance to organizations such as the Public Health Agency of Canada, the US Institute of Medicine, the US and Chinese Centers for Disease Control, the European Centers for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization. He holds a M.D. from Queen’s University, a M.Sc. in Epidemiology from the University of Toronto, a Ph.D. in Biomedical informatics from Stanford University and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with specialty training in Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

Current research:

I conduct research on the informatics of public health surveillance. In particular, I am interested in the development and evaluation of methods for surveillance systems that use clinical and administrative data. Previous and ongoing work includes the development of statistical methods for outbreak detection and the use of simulation modeling to evaluate surveillance systems.

Biography:

Dr Brassard is a public health and preventive medicine physician with post graduate training in parasitology and epidemiology. He is an Associate professor of Medicine at �� in Montreal and a clinician investigator in Clinical Epidemiology at the �� Health Center and an associate member at the Lady Davis Research Institute of the Jewish General Hospital.

He is currently developing a screening, prevention and promotion agenda focusing on the modern cancers touching the Inuit population of Canada, also looking into the natural history of inflammatory bowel diseases in Quebec, and conducting pharmacovigilance studies using large databanks to explore the exposure /disease relationship between commonly prescribed drugs (such as steroids, metformin or statins) and common diseases such as cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer and infectious diseases.

Biography:

Dr. Bernatsky is a rheumatologist, a James �� professor in the Department of Medicine (Divisions of Rheumatology and Clinical Epidemiology) and a senior scientist affiliated with the Centre for Health Outcomes Research at the Research Institute of the �� Health Centre. Dr. Bernatsky is also affiliated with the �� Environmental Epidemiology Research Group, a network with expertise in pharmacology/toxicology, and environmental sciences. She is a member of the Canadian Urban Environmental Health Research Consortium (CANUE), the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC), and the Canadian Network for Improved Outcomes in SLE (CaNIOS).

She is an established leader in research and knowledge translation in her field, having received numerous awards, including the Arthritis Alliance of Canada’s Knowledge Translation Practice Award. Her research primarily focuses on drug exposures in complex chronic diseases and patient outcomes, including morbidity, mortality, and economic impact. She has authored over 300 peer-reviewed articles. An active member of several research networks, Dr. Bernatsky is nominated PI of the Canadian Network for Advanced Interdisciplinary Methods (CAN-AIM) team, a pan-Canadian research network funded by the Drug Safety and Effectiveness Network (DSEN), a collaboration between CIHR and Health Canada. CAN-AIM team’s mandate is to provide new, accurate data on the long-term, real-world outcomes of drug therapies. Her work on drug safety and effectiveness includes a novel DSEN-funded national registry of patients receiving biosimilar agents and their legacy drugs. Dr. Bernatsky is also a mentor within the CIHR Drug Safety and Effectiveness Cross-Disciplinary Training (DSECT) Program, which provides a training environment for future scientists in Canada regarding high-quality post-market research in drug safety and effectiveness.

Biography:

Dr. Susan Bartlett is Professor of Medicine at �� (Divisions of Clinical Epidemiology, Rheumatology, and Respirology) and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Johns School of Medicine in Rheumatology. She is an internationally recognized expert in the self-management of chronic diseases, patient-centered outcome measurement and methods, and adherence to treatments. She received her Master’s from ��, a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Syracuse University and completed post-doctoral training at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where she served on the faculty from 1998-2008 when she relocated to ��. Dr. Bartlett has served as PI or Co-I on many NIH, CIHR, the Arthritis Society, the Arthritis Foundation and others. She is co-founder of Canada-PRO, chair of the Patient Centered Outcomes Working Group for the Behavioral Sciences Assembly of the American Thoracic Society, chair of the Standards and Methods Committee of the International Society of Quality of Life (ISOQOL) and a steering committee member for NIH PROMIS International, the OMERACT RA Flare Group, and SPIN (Scleroderma Patient-centered Intervention Network).

Current research:

I am a clinical researcher with interests in improving patient care and treatment outcomes in chronic diseases including inflammatory arthritis, asthma, COPD, and solid organ transplant. My current research focuses on patient engagement, understanding and measuring what matters most to patients, and enhancing treatment adherence to improve outcomes.

Projects:

1. Integration of patient-reported outcomes into solid organ transplant care.

2. Understanding the relative benefits and harms of rheumatological medications from the patient perspective.

3. Optimizing presentation of clinical and patient-reported outcomes for use in shared decision-making.
