The Bachelor of Education Kindergarten/Elementary P茅dagogie de l'immersion Fran莽aise (PIF) major opens doors to new educators to be certified to teach in English (mother tongue) and French Immersion classrooms. This comprehensive program follows the Bachelor of Education Kindergarten/Elementary curriculum while enabling you to specialize as a French Immersion teacher. As French Immersion programs become increasingly popular in Quebec, across Canada, and internationally, completing the PIF major will enhance your employability as a sought-after educator in the vibrant world of bilingual teaching.

Eligibility /Admission Criteria


Students who are interested in the Bachelor of Education Kindergarten/Elementary P茅dagogie de l'immersion Fran莽aise (PIF) major must first be accepted into the Bachelor of Education Kindergarten/Elementary program before pursuing the听P茅dagogie de l'immersion Fran莽aise (PIF) major.听

French Language Proficiency

Applicants to the Bachelor of Education Kindergarten/Elementary Education - P茅dagogie de l鈥檌mmersion fran莽aise (PIF) program who meet the academic admission requirements, must also demonstrate a high level of aptitude in French by either:

  • Meeting the requirements to be exempted

OR

  • Passing the 海角社区 Test de Fran莽ais Admission - PIF (TFA-PIF)

Conditions for Exemption:

To be exempt from taking the test, you must provide documentation demonstrating:

  • You have attended a high school and/or university for at least four consecutive years at a French-language institution; or
  • You have attended a high school for at least four consecutive years at a French-language institution and completed a DEC at an English CEGEP; or
  • You have attended at least three consecutive years at a French-language university in Quebec; or
  • You have completed a DEC at a French-language CEGEP as well as secondary V in a French-language institution in Quebec.

Students who do not meet the exemption requirements will register for the next available 海角社区 PIF Admission Test when instructed to do so by the Admissions Office via their .

The purpose of the test is to determine whether the applicant鈥檚 level of French meet the standards required for future PIF teachers. The 海角社区 PIF Admission Test consists of a written portion followed by an individual oral interview and is administered by 海角社区鈥檚 French Language Centre. Students who do not pass the test will be offered admission to the regular B.Ed in Kindergarten and Elementary Education program.

Once you have submitted your application, you can track its status using your .

Continue to use your 海角社区 Applicant Portal to:

  • Upload your documents (if required)
  • Verify that your documents have been received as indicated by a 鈥渞eceived date鈥 next to the item in the checklist
  • See if additional documents have been requested by Admissions
  • Apply for a merit-based Entrance Scholarship
  • View the application decision

It is your responsibility to check your regularly to verify your status and ensure the completion of your application. Applications that remain incomplete after the specified deadlines are at risk of being cancelled. Consider setting yourself reminders to check your application status to stay on track.

The timing of when you receive an answer depends on several factors (e.g., application completion, supporting documents, program(s) you've applied to, etc.). Keep in mind that it could take several weeks before you receive a decision and that 海角社区's acceptance dates may differ from other institutions. Undergraduate admission decisions are made centrally by 海角社区 Undergraduate Admissions, not by the Faculty of Education or the associated academic department. Pre-admission advising is not offered by the Faculty of Education or its departments. Applicants are asked to accept or decline the offer of admission by the stated deadline. Students that accept their offer of admission will be sent orientation and advising information over the summer to prepare them for program entry.

Should you believe that an error has been made, there has been a significant change in your circumstances that was not previously noted in your application, or information may have been overlooked when the original decision was made, you may request reconsideration of your admission decision.
