On April 10 at 7:30 p.m., the 海角社区 Symphony Orchestra, the Schulich Singers, and the 海角社区 Chorus join forces at Maison symphonique for a landmark, end-of-season performance showcasing symphonic grandeur and choral brilliance.
Under the direction of Alexis Hauser, Artistic Director of the 海角社区 Symphony Orchestra, and Jean-S茅bastien Vall茅e, Artistic Director of the 海角社区 Choral program, this concert highlights the extraordinary breadth and vitality of the Schulich School of Music鈥檚 large ensembles. Presented at one of Montreal鈥檚 most prestigious venues, it reflects the School鈥檚 continued presence across the city during the renovation of Pollack Hall.
Audiences are invited to arrive early for a pre-concert performance at 6:45pm by the Schulich Singers in the lobby of the Maison symphonique, offering an intimate musical prelude ahead of the main stage performance.
A monumental program
The evening opens with Johannes Brahms鈥� Schicksalslied, Op. 54, a deeply expressive choral work that explores hope in the face of human fragility.
The combined forces of orchestra and choirs continue with Anton铆n Dvo艡谩k鈥檚 Te Deum, Op. 103, featuring two outstanding student soloists: Soprano and Wirth Vocal Prize winner Zoe McCormick and baritone Christopher Pitre-McBride.
The orchestra will shine with Louise Farrenc鈥檚 Overture No. 2 in E Major, Op. 24, displaying the dramatic flair of this 19th-century French composer, whose work is enjoying a well-deserved resurgence.
The concert concludes with Camille Saint-Sa毛ns鈥檚 Symphony No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 78, Organ Symphony, featuring organist Madison Thompson. Both thrilling and majestic, the work鈥檚 grand scale and iconic organ passages promise a spectacular finale in the acoustic splendour of Maison symphonique.
A season brought to a powerful close
As one of the final large ensemble concerts of the 2025鈥�2026 season, this performance brings together the artistry, energy, and collaborative spirit that define the Schulich School of Music.
