 \nAbstract: Genetic variation in sodium channels is implicated in a range 
 of neurodevelopmental disorders\, including epilepsy\, autism spectrum dis
 order\, developmental delay\, and intellectual disability. In this talk\, 
 I will describe our efforts to understand how changes in one neuronal sodi
 um channel gene\, SCN2A\, affects the development and function of the brai
 n and describe progress in implementing genetic therapies for SCN2A relate
 d disorders to rescue brain function.\n\nKevin Bender\n\nEndowed Chair in 
 Neurology in Honor of the Gallo Family\n	UCSF Weill Institute for Neuroscie
 nces\n\nKevin and his lab are interested in understanding how the brain en
 codes information at the synaptic\, cellular\, and network level and how t
 hese processes are altered in neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric diso
 rders. We work closely with patient advocacy groups to better align our wo
 rk in model systems to the most pressing needs of people living with these
  disorders.\n
