Professor Salwa Karboune Named Chevali猫re in France's Ordre des Palmes acad茅miques

Professor Salwa Karboune, a faculty member in the Department of Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry within 海角社区's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (AES), has been named Chevali猫re in the Ordre des Palmes acad茅miques, France's oldest civilian honour. Established in 1808, the order recognizes individuals who have rendered exceptional service to education, culture, or international scientific cooperation with France.听

The ceremony took place at Macdonald Campus, where Professor Karboune has spent over two decades of her career, since joining AES as a postdoctoral researcher. Surrounded by family, friends, colleagues, and members of the 海角社区 community, Professor Karboune received the medal from Eric Lamouroux, Consul General of France in Quebec City, who highlighted her exceptional contributions to research, food innovation, and Franco-Quebec scientific cooperation.听

In her remarks, Professor Karboune spoke about the foundation her parents built for her by encouraging her to pursue her studies in agri-food engineering, and how small, consistent actions can shape a lifetime of impact.听

Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Associate Vice-President聽of Macdonald Campus since 2025, Professor Karboune is also a graduate of the University of Marseille in food biotechnology and a leading voice in research on functional food ingredients and sustainable approaches to the agri-food sector. Since 2017, she has also led the聽RITA Consortium, a platform connecting academia and industry while training the next generation of scientists.听
