Nursing students provide health screening to Special Olympics athletes

For the sixth year in a row, a mighty team of students from the Ingram School of Nursing’s BScN, Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Nursing master’s programs arrived early on Saturday morning, March 28, at ��’s gym for the annual Grand rendez-vous unifié organized by Special Olympics Quebec. Billed as a gateway to health for athletes with intellectual disabilities such as autism, the day combined friendly athletic competition with health screening provided by students from medicine, nursing and dentistry.

As Nursing Student Representative at Swab the World �� and Equity Commissioner for the Nursing Undergraduate Society (NUS), Melanie Xie found the perfect opportunity to bridge both roles by co-organizing a potluck and Stem Cell Donation Drive for donors under the age of 35. “As a person of color, I am acutely aware of the disparities that exist in our healthcare system; for patients from diverse backgrounds, finding a matching donor is often significantly harder,” Melanie explains.

From Brazil to Montreal

In March, the Ingram School of Nursing had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Nayara Barbosa from the School of Nursing at the University of São-Paulo, Brazil, and Margareth Zanchetta from the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing at Toronto Metropolitan University. Prof. Barbosa is a nurse researcher whose work promotes sexual and reproductive health of vulnerable women dealing with homelessness in Sāo Paulo, Brazil.

Living Books Project: An engaging way to learn about mental health

On March 24, 2026, second year BScN students in the course NUR1 333 attended a unique workshop designed to destigmatize mental health called Living Books. A project of the Omega Community Resources, a non-profit organization in Dorval that provides support and assistance to adults living with mental health challenges, Living Books humanizes mental health while helping clients heal by writing their stories and sharing them in the community.

Children’s Week offers great learning opportunity

For a few days in February, the sounds of laughter and excited chatter could be heard as the children of faculty and staff participated in an unforgettable learning experience in the Ingram School of Nursing's Satoko Shibata Clinical Nursing Laboratories. Affectionately referred to as Children’s Week, this activity provided students with the unique opportunity to consolidate their learning about pediatrics by performing well visits on children under the age of 12.

A joint venture between the �� Chapter of the Canadian Black Nurses Alliance (CBNA-��), the Nursing Graduate Students Society (NGSA), and the Office for Social Accountability in Nursing (OSAN), this special event was held at the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN) on February 26, 2026. “The event reflected the kind of professional identity we strive to cultivate as nurses — one grounded in care, connection, and community,” says ISoN Faculty Lecturer Anne-Laurie Beaubrun, who served as chair of the organizing committee and facilitated the panel discussion.

New nurse practitioner led clinic opens in Pierrefonds

As of February 2, 2026, Quebec’s newest nurse practitioner (NP) led clinic in the West Island at CLSC Pierrefonds is open for business. A collaborative venture between ��’s Ingram School of Nursing and the Nursing Department of the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’île-de-Montreal, the clinic is designed to improve access to frontline services for individuals without a family doctor or primary care NP and will serve as a teaching site for �� nursing, NP and other health profession students. Currently, services are offered by referral only.

Dialogue �� conference connects health care professionals, policy makers, researchers, trainees, and community organizations
