Current research: 

Research in Elin Thordardottir麓s lab focuses on language development and Developmental Language Disorder, including its underlying nature, clinical assessment and intervention. Her work has focused on children speaking English, French and Icelandic and on bilingual and multilingual children speaking one or more of these in addition to various heritage languages. A line of research in Montreal (funded by SSHRC), has focused on the development of French-English bilinguals from preschool to adolescence as well as on heritage language speakers. In her work in Iceland (funded by RANN脥S, The Icelandic Research Fund) at her lab at the University of Iceland where she is Adjunct Professor, she has studied DLD in Icelandic and Icelandic as L2, with the Montreal-Iceland comparison highlighting the importance of broad social practices and policies. Elin Thordardottir has had leadership roles in large European research networks (Cost-Actions) on DLD in bilingual children and on the clinical management of DLD across Europe.
