French Language Requirements for Field Placements

Admission - BSW French Language Requirements for Field Placements

  • Students are expected to be functional in French (comprehension, spoken, and written) for the field placement components of the BSW program.
  • Normally, students complete field placement training amounting to approximately 400 hours/year in U2 and approximately 400 hours/year in U3
  • Applicants are asked to self-rate French proficiency on the BSW 鈥淪ocial Work Written Submission鈥� document that is part of the application. This is important as French proficiency is needed for field placements in U2 and U3 of the BSW Program. The information provided on French proficiency is used for field placement planning purposes only.
  • For graduates who intend to practice social work in Quebec, Qu茅bec law requires candidates seeking admission to the professional social work order of Quebec () to demonstrate a working knowledge of the French language. For more information, please see our Social Work in Quebec page.
