In the Americas\ , 30% of the population are Afro descendants. Although invisibilized from some health statistics\, Afro-descendants in the region are overrepresente d in cardiovascular diseases\, maternal mortality and vector-borne disease s. The collection of disaggregated race and ethnicity-based data is crucia l to understand and appropriately address health inequities. Current data collection efforts remain incomplete and insufficiently widespread. There is limited evidence data on race\, ethnicity\, and health inequities regar ding Latin American and the Caribbean region. In this seminar I will share the results from a series of scoping reviews of the current evidence rega rding race and ethnicity inequities in the Latin America and Caribbean reg ion within the context of major health outcomes for a better recognition o f knowledge gaps.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nAt the end of this talk\, atte ndees will be able to:\n\n\n Identify similarities and differences between the use of race and ethnicity concepts in the context of Latin America and the Caribbean\;\n Understand the potential use of population-based race/et hnicity data in the context of major health outcomes in the region\;\n Iden tify key determinants of race and ethnicity inequities in Latin America an d the Caribbean according to the current evidence in the region.\n\n\nSpea ker Bio\n\nDr. Mabel Carabali (she/her) is an infectious diseases and soci al epidemiologist physician.
