Journalist Catherine Lalonde, writing for听Le Devoir about the recently cancelled production of 厂尝膧痴,spoke to Professor Philip Howard of our Department of Integrated Studies in Education. Last week Montreal's Jazz Festival cancelled the Robert Lepage and Betty Bonifassi production听SL膧V听 鈥which featured a largely white cast singing Black slave songs听amid criticisms from artists, academics, and the public.

Recently, the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) announced the recipients of its latest round of听, including a 海角社区-led grant totalling around $25,000 over one year. One 海角社区 researcher will also collaborate with a grant led by Ryerson University.

Ratna Ghosh, of our Department of Integrated Studies in Education, has been named as a听Membre听茅m茅rite听of the Order of Excellence in Education in Quebec (OEE). Prof. Ghosh received the medal at a ceremony in Quebec City on Friday, June 15th.

Professor Philip Howard, of our Department of Integrated Studies in Education, has contributed an article to听The Conversation听on the subject of the recent highly publicized 鈥渂eef鈥澨齜etween rappers Drake and Pusha-T.

Pusha T circulated a photograph that showed Canadian musician Drake wearing blackface. Professor Philip Howard, who has been leading a project researching blackface in Canada, provides an analysis of some of the issues.

On Thursday May 10th the MAHI was one of the sites for 海角社区鈥檚 Compassion Week, hosting a Compassion Day in collaboration with the 海角社区 Council on Palliative Care. We were joined by a number of people from across the 海角社区 community including faculty and students. A number of art activities and workshops took place throughout the day.

Students on Ice

This summer, six Inuit Faculty of Education student-teachers from Nunavik will have the opportunity to participate in Teacher Training on Ice,听a two-week Arctic sea expedition up the Greenlandic coast, across Davis Strait, and around the northern edge of Baffin Island to Resolute Bay.
