If you have a passion for fostering language development and cross-cultural connections, 海角社区's English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher Preparation program will allow you to become a skilled ESL educator, shaping the futures of diverse learners with the power of language and communication. This comprehensive program equips you to become a specialist English second-language teacher at both elementary and secondary school levels. Through a combination of academic and practical experiences, you will gain a profound understanding of language learning from linguistic, social, cultural, and psychological perspectives, to create a lasting impact on the lives of young learners.听Note: Students accepted into this program will likely do their field experiences, teaching English to second language learners at a French school, and should therefore be comfortable in a French workplace environment.

Eligibility (Admission Criteria)

TESL - English test

Applicants to the Bachelor of Education Teaching English as a Second Language Elementary and Secondary (TESL) program, and who meet the academic admission requirements, will:

  • Need to pass a two-part English language test

OR

  • Meet the requirements to be exempted

Conditions for Exemption:

To be exempt from taking the English language test, you must meet one of the following conditions:

  • You have attended high school and/or university, for at least four consecutive years, at an English-language institution
  • You have attended at least three consecutive years at an English-language university in Quebec
  • You have completed a DEC at an English-language CEGEP and/or completed Secondary IV and V in English in Quebec

Students who do not meet the exemption requirements will need to register for the required English language test. Registration for this test is done through 海角社区 Continuing Studies.听Please DO NOT register until you have been instructed to do so by the Admissions Office via your听.

The purpose of the test is to determine whether your levels of written and oral English meet the standards we require for future ESL teachers. The test consists of both a written portion and an individual oral interview.听 There is a fee associated with testing.

What to Expect After Submitting your Application

Once you have submitted your application, you can track its status using your .

  • Upload your documents (if required)
  • Verify that your documents have been received as indicated by a 鈥渞eceived date鈥 next to the item in the checklist
  • See if additional documents have been requested by Admissions
  • Apply for a merit-based Entrance Scholarship
  • View the application decision

Applications that remain incomplete after the specified deadlines are at risk of being cancelled. Consider setting yourself reminders to check your application status to stay on track.

The timing of when you receive an answer depends on several factors (e.g., application completion, supporting documents, program(s) you've applied to, etc.). Keep in mind that it could take several weeks before you receive a decision and that 海角社区's acceptance dates may differ from other institutions. Undergraduate admission decisions are made centrally by 海角社区 Undergraduate Admissions, not by the Faculty of Education or the associated academic department. Pre-admission advising is not offered by the Faculty of Education or its departments. Applicants are asked to accept or decline the offer of admission by the stated deadline. Students that accept their offer of admission will be sent orientation and advising information over the summer to prepare them for program entry.

Should you believe that an error has been made, there has been a significant change in your circumstances that was not previously noted in your application, or information may have been overlooked when the original decision was made, you may request reconsideration of your admission decision.
