Clinical Research - Geroscience Clinical Trials Units (GCTUs)

GCTU Logo

The Division conducts innovative, patient-centred clinical research through its Geroscience Clinical Trials Units (GCTUs), a network of trial sites based within 海角社区-affiliated hospitals and research centres linked with the Canadian Translational Geroscience Network (). The GCTUs serve as the clinical research arm of the Division, testing innovative interventions to treat age-related chronic diseases and maintain or enhance intrinsic capacity, prevent disability, and extend healthspan in older adults.

Working in close collaboration with the , and , the GCTUs conduct investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored studies ranging from early-phase mechanistic trials to pragmatic, real-world interventions. Areas of investigation include geroscience-guided therapeutics, exercise and nutrition interventions, AI-based interventions (e.g., music therapy), new technologies, neurocognitive disorders (dementia and MCI), osteosarcopenia, testing new or repurposed drugs that target the hallmarks of aging (i.e., senolytics, senomorphics, rapamymetics), frailty prevention, and models of integrated care.

Each trial is designed with a multidisciplinary approach鈥攅ngaging geriatricians, pharmacologists, health professionals, rehabilitation experts, nurses, and data scientists鈥攖o ensure that outcomes are clinically meaningful and ethically sound. Through this infrastructure, the Division provides a robust platform for training the next generation of clinician-scientists while advancing evidence-based strategies that translate aging biology into better health for older adults.
