Schulich School of Music Awards

If you have been offered a Schulich School of Music award, read the following acceptance and renewal tips. You must fill out the by August 1st, 2025.

What do I need to do to receive my award?

  1. You must maintain full-time registration or equivalent status (e.g. additional session). If you are a thesis student, you can confirm your registration by adding the REGN RCGR courses to your record for both Fall and Winter terms. See the registration information sent to all students. Non-thesis students do not need to add the REGN RCGR courses but must register for a minimum of 12 credits per term.
  2. If you are receiving payments through your personal bank account or planning to request a refund, you must enter your bank account information under the 鈥淏ank account used for student-initiated payments鈥 section in the Direct Deposit Bank Account menu on Minerva, in order to receive direct deposit payments.
  3. Bank account information can entered in Minerva as follows:
    • For fellowship payments, you must enter it in the section entitled 鈥淪tudent-initiated payments.鈥
    • Even if your award is deposited to your 海角社区 Student Account (fees), please set up your banking information on Minerva. Direct deposit is used for awards, refunds, and grants.
    • If a direct deposit refund is returned to 海角社区 by the bank due to incorrect banking information, the refund will be re-credited to your student fee account, a $45 fee will be charged, and you will be notified by email to update your banking information.
    • Clear any outstanding conditions of acceptance (see warnings and/or holds) on Minerva. Fellowship payments may be delayed if a student has a document (condition of admission) warning and/or a hold on his/her record or if the awardee has a financial (accounting/tuition/libraries) warning and/or a hold on his/her record. Document holds or warnings are used to record outstanding conditions of admissions. When a newly admitted student is conditionally admitted, Enrolment Services places a warning on the student鈥檚 record to indicate that the admission is conditional. The warning still allows the student to register, but award payments may be delayed until the warning/hold has been removed. The warning typically changes to a hold if Enrolment Services has not received the document, thus preventing future registration.
  4. Returning students must clear any K/KE (incomplete/extension) grades.
  5. Ensure your address information and phone number is current and active (pay attention to expiry dates).

How and when will my award be paid?

Some payments will be made to your 海角社区 Student Account and applied toward your tuition fees. Others will be deposited into your personal bank account.

  • You can view your awards and method of payment on Minerva under the Financial Aid & Awards tab once they have been processed (by August 15).
  • Awards are listed by Aid Year, and each award includes a link to the disbursement schedule indicating the scheduled payment date, amount, and method.

I鈥檓 an international student and I can鈥檛 open a Canadian Bank Account until I arrive in Canada

For payments issued to your personal bank account, processing cannot begin until your banking information has been provided. Once the information is entered on Minerva, the payments will be disbursed. After submitting your banking information, please contact the graduatestudies.music [at] mcgill.ca (subject: SSoM%20Awards) (Graduate Studies Office )so we can process the payment.

My tuition fees are due before I receive my award(s)

  • Fall term fees are due on August 31, 2026.
  • Winter term fees are due on January 6, 2027.

For the Fall term, fees are due at the end of August, but interest is only charged a few days later. As long as your award is applied to your Student Fee Account on September 1 and you pay any remaining balance, there should be no issue.

If your award is paid in instalments to your personal bank account and you rely on this funding to pay your fees, students with no prior outstanding tuition or fees may request a deferral. Deferral requests must be submitted by the student through the 鈥淒efer Payment of Tuition and Fees鈥 option under the Financial Aid & Awards menu on Minerva.

  • Deferrals are granted on a term-by-term basis.
  • No interest or late payment charges will apply during the deferral period for the portion covered.
  • A financial hold will be placed shortly after the deferral ends.
  • The duration of the deferral depends on its type.

Complete information is available here: 海角社区 Fee Deferrals.

Fee deferrals must be requested each term.

Students receiving awards of $12,000 or less (paid as a lump sum) are not eligible for fee deferrals. If the award does not fully cover tuition, the remaining balance must be paid by the deadline.

My award was deposited into my Student Fee Account and there鈥檚 money left over after my tuition has been paid.聽How do I get it back?
