Research area:

Nonlinear dynamics of physiological systems, dynamical disease, vision, structure and dynamics of genetic networks, cardiac arrhythmia

Leon Glass carries out research on application of nonlinear dynamics to physiology and medicine. He has worked on problems associated with respiratory rhythmogenesis and the effects of periodic forcing on respiration, dynamics of tremor and motor control, dynamics of cardiac arrhythmia, visual perception, and dynamics in gene networks. Mathematical models are formulated based on data collected from experiments and the clinic. Mechanisms underlying transitions between different dynamical behaviors as parameters are varied are considered from a perspective of bifurcation theory in nonlinear dynamics. Practical applications include characterizing dynamics and predicting dynamical transitions for cardiac arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, premature ventricular complexes, and reentrant tachycardia.
