Myriam Denov awarded the 2026 Governor General Award in Innovation

Myriam Denov, a professor in the School of Social Work at 海角社区, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Governor General鈥檚 Innovation Award. The award, which recognizes outstanding Canadian innovations with significant societal impact, was officially announced on April 9.

Myriam Denov is being honoured for her pioneering work in advancing research and practice related to vulnerable children and youth, particularly those affected by war and violence. Her contributions have helped shape policy and support systems both in Canada and internationally.

Congratulations to Social Work Professor Myriam Denov, who received SSHRC鈥檚 highest honour.

"Myriam Denov, a leading advocate for children鈥檚 rights and a Professor in 海角社区鈥檚 School of Social Work, has won a Gold Medal from the听听(SSHRC), 听its highest honour.

The award is for sustained leadership, dedication and originality of thought that have inspired students and colleagues; it comes with a $100,000 prize for future research.

Denov鈥檚 research interests include children born of war and families affected by war and genocide. Over the past 25 years, she has worked with war-affected children on three continents and advised NGOs and such governmental organizations as Global Affairs Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Department of National Defence."
