Information for Current Patients

Preparation for your first visit

After completing the intake questionnaire, you will be contacted by the Clinical Research Coordinator to schedule your first visit. There is nothing special you need to do to prepare; however, please remember to bring your聽Jewish General Hospital card聽and your聽Qu茅bec Medicare (RAMQ) card聽on the day of your appointment.聽聽

What happens at the first visit?

At your first visit, the physician will:

  • Review your聽medical and family history
  • Provide a personalized risk assessment, including聽short-term and lifetime risk
  • Perform a聽clinical breast exam
  • Discuss whether you should schedule additional imaging (mammogram, ultrasound, and/or breast MRI) in the weeks/months after the visit聽聽

Referrals may be provided for appropriate candidates, including genetic counselling, smoking cessation, weight management services, hereditary gynecologic surveillance, and other screening specialists.聽聽

After the first visit

Some patients may need future appointments. Many patients are followed in clinic on an聽annual聽(one visit per year) or聽biannual聽basis (two visits per year), depending on risk level and care plan.聽聽

What patients often ask

  • How often will I need imaging?聽Your plan is individualized. Many high-risk pathways involve annual imaging, and in some cases alternating modalities every 6 months. (See the 鈥淪creening & Prevention鈥 page.)聽聽
  • What if I can鈥檛 have an MRI?聽Alternatives may be discussed when MRI is not possible (e.g., contraindications, tolerance), depending on your risk profile.
