General Information

Introduction

The High-Risk Breast Clinic (HRBC), located in听Montr茅al, Qu茅bec, provides specialized screening and clinical surveillance for individuals at elevated risk of developing breast cancer. For example, while the average woman has an estimated听~12% lifetime risk听of breast cancer, people with听atypical breast biopsy findings, a听history of chest wall radiation at a young age, or听inherited genetic susceptibility听may have a substantially higher risk (sometimes estimated in the听40鈥80%听lifetime range depending on the risk factor and family history).听听

Objective

The objective of the HRBC is to provide:

  • Personalized risk assessment听(short-term and lifetime risk)
  • Guideline-based high-risk screening
  • Supportive counselling听and education
  • Risk-reduction options听(lifestyle, medications, and鈥攊n selected cases鈥攕urgery)
  • Referrals to appropriate services (e.g., genetics, hereditary gynecologic surveillance, smoking cessation, weight management, etc.)听听

Who we care for

The HRBC is intended primarily for asymptomatic individuals at increased risk. If you have a new breast symptom (for example a new lump, nipple discharge, skin changes, or persistent focal pain), you should speak with your healthcare provider promptly so you can be assessed through a diagnostic pathway.
