This course will help you strengthen your command of essential grammar for accurate writing, including verb tense agreement, the use of pronouns, verb moods, and other key grammatical elements.

Through an interactive approach, you will explore different types of texts used in professional contexts, such as letters, memos, and case reports. You will learn to identify and use various discourse types, including informative, narrative, prescriptive, and argumentative discourse, as well as combinations of these forms.

Description:

This oral communication course focuses on developing the skills needed to interact effectively with patients, clients, service users, or colleagues in a professional setting. Through practical activities, discussions, and role‑playing, you will work on specialized vocabulary and common sentence structures relevant to the fields of health and psychosocial services.

The course places particular emphasis on variations in spoken French, especially Quebec French, in order to familiarize you with idiomatic expressions, common usage, and different language registers. Simulations inspired by real‑life situations, supported by authentic audio and video materials, help strengthen listening comprehension and the ability to communicate naturally and appropriately in context.

Description:

This course aims to develop the French written communication skills required in professional settings. You will learn to write clear and well‑structured texts using appropriate grammatical forms and relevant vocabulary.

Based on models analyzed in class, you will work on common sentence structures and various types of professional texts. The course prepares you for the demands of written communication in the fields of health and psychosocial services, as well as for the French language exam of the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF).

OQLF Exam Workshop

  • Cost: Free for eligible participants
  • Prerequisites: Advanced intermediate level (B2), QUM8
  • Group size: Limited to 8 participants
  • Eligibility: Undergraduate and graduate students (first and second cycles) in health and psychosocial services, as well as º£½ÇÉçÇø physicians in postdoctoral training.

In Quebec, members of professional orders must demonstrate adequate proficiency in French to practice their profession. This typically involves passing the French proficiency exam administered by the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF).

In partnership with Dialogue º£½ÇÉçÇø, the Centre for French Language Teaching (CEF) offers a two-sessions workshop to simulate the OQLF exam and help you determine if you are ready to succeed.
