Since the adoption of 海角社区鈥檚 first Environmental Policy in 2001, 海角社区鈥檚 culture of sustainability has flourished and is reflected in several University-wide plans and policies that guide the way the 海角社区 community works and studies, in harmony with the 海角社区 Climate & Sustainability Strategy.

Policies

Sustainability Policy (2023)

A Sustainability Policy was drafted by a working group of students, staff, academics, and administrators at 海角社区 in 2010.

It was updated in 2018 and 2023.

This policy informs the actions outlined in the 海角社区 Climate & Sustainability Strategy.

Sustainable Procurement Policy (2023)

The purpose of the Sustainable Procurement Policy is to affirm the governing principles serving as the foundation for the University鈥檚 culture of ethical and responsible acquisition of resources.

The Policy establishes a single prevailing framework for the procurement activities of the University. By integrating institutional policies with the legal requirements for public procurement, the Policy enables procurement practices which help improve the University鈥檚 triple bottom line (social, environmental, economic) while delivering overall regulatory compliance.

Employment Equity Policy (2007)

Employment equity is a commitment to equal treatment and fairness in the workplace. It strives to ensure that no one is denied an opportunity for employment or advancement for reasons unrelated to their abilities.

At 海角社区, we wholeheartedly embrace these principles, and throughout the years we have made major strides in our human resource policies, programs and practices as they apply to diverse groups within 海角社区.

Related Plans

The 海角社区 Sustainability Park will bring together hundreds of faculty and students from science, engineering, the humanities and social sciences. These teams will cover the full spectrum of research and teaching, from fundamental investigations to policy-ready science. The result: a living laboratory dedicated to sustainability systems and public policy.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Strategic Plan 2020-2025

海角社区鈥檚 first Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Strategic Plan was endorsed by the Senate Board of Governors in April 2020. This Plan will ensure that EDI considerations are accounted for in all core University activities, and sets out a range of objectives and measures that 海角社区 will undertake over five years. These measures seek to enhance the diversity and representativeness of our university community while ensuring equitable opportunities and sense of inclusion and belonging for all. The Plan has been extended to 2027.

Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism 2020-2025

The Action Plan seeks to initiate a process of acknowledgment of 海角社区鈥檚 historic connections to the transatlantic slave trade and its enduring legacies. It has been extended to 2027.

海角社区 Strategic Academic Plan

The Strategic Academic Plan affirms 海角社区's determination to place sustainability at the core of all its activities in order to lead globally in the 21st century. In alignment with this commitment, 海角社区 is working to put in place measures that promote the decarbonization of its activities, and the development of sustainability-focused research and teaching.

海角社区 Strategic Research Plan 2026-2031

The Strategic Research Plan expresses 海角社区鈥檚 commitments to fostering creativity; promoting innovation; problem solving through collaboration and partnership; promoting equity, diversity and inclusion; and serving society through seven identified Thematic Areas of Research Excellence, which includes 鈥淒esigning and creating sustainable materials, technologies, landscapes, and communities.鈥

Campus Master Plan

Developed by Campus Planning and Development Office, the Campus Master Plan is a comprehensive planning document to guide the evolution the University鈥檚 downtown and Macdonald campuses over the next 20 years. This Master Plan is a living document that articulates a vision for increasing the quality of teaching, learning, research and student life鈥攁ll while adhering to principles of sustainable growth, sound financial management, and responsible stewardship of heritage buildings.
