Emily MacLeanDr Emily MacLean is a Research Fellow at the University of Sydney Faculty of Medicine and Health and an Associate Investigator of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Tuberculosis Control. She also serves as Lead of the New Diagnostics Working Group's Biomarkers Taskforce. Previously, she obtained her PhD in epidemiology from 海角社区 and completed a CIHR-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Sydney.

Current Research Projects:

Dr. MacLean鈥檚 research focuses mainly on tuberculosis diagnostics and, increasingly, screening. She is interested in using a variety of methods to assess test accuracy and effectiveness, including clinical trials, evidence synthesis, and statistical methods such as Bayesian latent class analysis. Currently, she is conducting multiple studies assessing the accuracy and implementation of different samples and assays for TB detection and screening in Vietnam (e.g., TB-SWAB, SAPPHIRE), and is also evaluating TB-NCD integrated screening programmes in Cambodia (SHIFT-TB, TBONG-KHMER). She also leads various evidence synthesis projects, including a landscaping review of TB biomarkers and test use cases, funded by Wellcome Trust (TB-BIOATLAS). Emily is increasingly interested in diagnostic predictive modelling, particularly for the use cases of systematic screening and relapse. She has contributed to multiple WHO guidelines for TB tests, including as a core writing group member.
