Dr. Marcel Behr is a clinician-scientist. He was the founding Director of the 海角社区 International TB Centre and led it from 2012 to 2018. He is the Director of the 海角社区 Infectious Diseases Division and the 海角社区 Interdisciplinary Initiative in Infection and Immunity (MI4).
Dr. Behr trained at the University of Toronto, Queen鈥檚, 海角社区 and Stanford. His work has clarified the natural history of TB, determined the basis of Bacillus Calmette-Gu茅rin (BCG) attenuation, identified differences between related mycobacterial species, and explained the molecular basis for the use of mycobacteria as immune adjuvants.
Current research projects:
- Tuberculosis preventive treatments (TPT) model with Dr. Andr茅anne Lupien and Dr. Richard Menzies.
- Immunization against zoonotic TB strains with Dr. Maziar Divangahi.
- Single-cell sequence analysis of zoonotic TB strains with Dr. Erwin Schurr.
- Working with Dr. Luke Harrison on Mycobacterium tuberculosis evolution.
